Tour Details

In this tour we’ll start by the Roman Ruins nearby Loulé. There you’ll witness the remains of Roman Civilization in this area. From there we’ll go to a magnificent architectonical rococo Palace that is an authentic pearl hidden in a small village. Then it’s time to visit Tavira and its unique character and heritage. There you’ll be able to take through the narrow streets of this (originally) Moorish village. To end the day, you’ll take the boat to Tavira island (included). This is an experience you mustn’t miss.

Our Recommendations

Milreu Roman Ruins

In this Roman remains it is possible to perceive the luxurious residence manor, its thermal baths, oil and wine mills and agricultural installations. It’s also possible to see important archeological finds: predominantly marine thematic mosaics, marbles and pottery used to decorate the interiors and the gardens.

Estoi Palace

This Palace has been built at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. It’s a beautiful Rococo building, originally used as a summer retreat, that has been under reconstruction for several years and now serves as a Pousada. The palace is one of the finest buildings in all this area.

Tavira

Tavira is an ancient Moorish town with its unique character and heritage to become one of the finest resort towns of the Algarve. The town extends along the banks of the River and is a delightful mix of traditional Portuguese architecture with deep-rooted Moorish influences. Tavira is a joy to explore with its plethora of historic buildings and decorative churches, all of which are set around charming plazas and cobbled streets.

Tavira Island

Tavira Island is found South of the city and can only be reached by boat. The Island is 11Km long and varies between 1Km and 150m width. It’s considered to be one of the best beaches in Algarve. The Island belongs to the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, which is popular it’s birds and flamingos, a delight for bird lovers.

Alternative Options

Faro

Its delightful historic center encircled by ancient city walls by day has an unhurried ambience about the city, with old men playing dominos in the plazas, but by night there is a surprising buzzing and social nightlife to Faro. The city is also the gateway to the Ria Formosa nature park, a series of saltwater lagoons and mudflats that are a haven for migratory birds and wildlife. Faro is a diverse and intriguing city and deserves to be visited.

Paderne Castle

The Castle of Paderne sits in a dominant position on a hill next to the Quarteira. It was built in the late 11th to early 12th centuries by Arabs and considered one of the best examples of Arab military architecture in the Iberian Peninsula. Today, the Paderne Castle is one of seven castle symbols on the Portuguese national flag.

Loulé

Loulé is a traditional Portuguese market town and one of the most popular day trip destinations of the central Algarve region. Visitors are drawn to Loule, as it boasts a characterful historic center, a lively market and a genuine Portuguese atmosphere.
