Our Recommendations

Clerigos Tower

The Clerigos Tower is one of the paradigmatic architectural landmarks of Porto. The structure is part of the Clerigos Church representing its bell tower. The church was built between 1732 and 1750, but the construction works at the Clerigos Tower started no sooner than 1754, only to be completed in 1763. It was designed by Nicolau Nasoni, the Italian architect who left a strong artistic print on Porto.

Lello Library

Livraria Lello is a living access door to its history: for preserving the building, for maintaining its original function as a bookshop, for the role of ambassadress of culture and for expanding the cultural dynamics of the city. In the last decade, Livraria Lello has been officially recognized as “one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world” by the magazine Time, The Guardian, and the travel guide Lonely Planet.

Aliados

This avenue is Porto’s reception room. Some say this is our little Champs Elysées, but this designation is unfair for both sides. Aliados is surrounded by beautiful buildings, with a very specific character that has much to do with the strength that people from Porto have shown throughout History.

São Bento Station

The incredible set of tiles which depict historical life scenes are a must-see that you should admire. We highly recommend a short visit.

Main Cathedral

Porto’s Cathedral is an historic landmark in the old center, where the city was born. In fact, this is Porto’s oldest district. Its characteristic neighborhood and its residents are the most genuine part of the city. Right next to the cathedral, you can see the beautiful medieval tower from the 13th century. The Cathedral itself is a 12th century Romanesque structure. Despite its Romanesque roots, you will see that the cathedral, all over the centuries, has been suffering many changes of different architectonical styles, like the baroque roofs of the turrets next the front door.

St Francis Church

The Church of São Francisco do Porto is a fine example of Gothic architecture in the city. This little gem started being built in the 13th century but suffered several delays and accidents on the way. Only in 1383 the works progressed. It was completed in 1410 and it remains almost intact until nowadays.

Dom Luís Bridge

Oporto’s iconic bridge opened in 1886, when it held the record for the longest iron arch in the world. Today the metro crosses the upper level, while the lower level is used by cars and pedestrians to cross the river from the center of Porto to the spectacular city views and port wine warehouses.

Miradouro do Pilar

From this Miradouro (sightseeing) you’ll have a breathtaking view over the city walls. You’ll see Porto from the other side and will be able to enjoy its incredible scenery. It’s the perfect way to end the Tour. And if it’s on the sunset we bet you won’t forget this moment for a long time.

Alternative Options

Casa da Música

One of Porto’s leading cultural venues. Half way between the historic center and the sea area you can see a large-scale and original building that is sure to catch anyone’s attention. The building, with its bold architecture, is designed to host all types of music – from classical to electronic, jazz to fado, major international productions to small-scale projects.

Sea Life Center

SEA LIFE Porto is an attraction with 32 aquariums, divided by 12 distinct areas, from the fresh water landscapes to the Atlantic, passing by tropical seas. You’ll see more than 5600 sea creatures. In here you’ll also have the possibility to touch the animals, from the sharp sea-urchin to the delicate sea-star. Go under the 1st underwater tunnel of the country and dive along the mysterious sharks or the curious giant turtle. Family fun for everyone!

Serralves Museum

Uniquely sited on the grounds of the Serralves Foundation, which also comprises a park and the Serralves Villa, a landmark Art Deco building, the museum designed by Álvaro Siza opened in 1999. Through its exhibitions, collection, publications, performing arts, and public programmes, the museum fosters the understanding and appreciation of contemporary art and culture in Portugal and around the world.

Additional Activities

We can book a wine tasting in some of the most interesting and historical winemakers in this area. In here you can try out the Portuguese wine and understand its history and cultural importance. For wine lovers it’s a must-do.
